DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, the Security Operations Lead will maintain the physical security and safety of the UCSD Bookstore, Sunshine Market, and Audrey's café. Follow Loss Prevention policies and procedures including CCTV monitoring, surveillance, apprehending and report writing. Prevent thefts and minimize inventory loss through investigations and control practices. Reduce losses through safety enforcement by reporting safety concerns. Provide assessment of security devices and procedures as required. Routine check and maintenance of security devices. As Lead, provide work coordination to Loss Prevention Services staff, approximately 8-15 students, to ensure store-closing procedures are followed.
Alternate work schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required. Overtime during peak periods required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated knowledge of loss prevention policies and procedures including apprehension, detention, citizens' arrest, and applicable state and federal laws and regulations governing apprehension and prosecution. Effective observation skills. Ability to interpret, articulate and enforce policies, regulations and procedures.
Demonstrated experience in shoplifting prevention and theft surveillance including apprehension.
Working knowledge of CCTV surveillance equipment including installation, maintenance, and placement.
Demonstrated knowledge of low voltage electrical systems and communications cable uses and limitations. Ability to read and review architectural and electrical drawings.
Strong problem resolution skills with the ability to evaluate, defuse and address sensitive situations and take effective corrective action. Ability to make impartial decisions and apply sound judgment.
Demonstrated experience scheduling and coordinating a part time or student work force. Experience providing individual or group orientation and training to employees.
Proficiency in the use of personal computers and office applications, and aptitude to learn and use new applications.
Demonstrated experience in record keeping with strict attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to complete written and electronic forms and logs accurately and thoroughly. Ability to keep legible, accurate and useful records and databases and produce necessary reports from collective data.
Excellent problem solving and conflict management skills. Critical thinking skills to identify problems and develop solutions. Ability to examine and question policies, processes, and procedures in order to gain a stronger understanding of, as well as to offer recommendations for improvements to such items/issues.
Proven ability to organize tasks, documents, and materials in a timely manner. Skill completing forms thoroughly and accurately. Skill at maintaining filing system for rapid, easy retrieval by self and others.
Proven ability to work effectively in a service oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities. Ability to be client focused and provide best customer service possible.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students and the general public.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and in writing with heavy customer contact and a diverse population. Ability to remain calm and demonstrate a pleasant demeanor when assisting customers in person and over the telephone.

Must have a valid California Driver License and must participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $40,700 - $81,850 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $19.49 - $39.20
