Samford University Athletics is searching for a Graduate Assistant for broadcasting and digital media. The Broadcasting Graduate Assistant will report directly to the Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing, Strategic Communications, and Broadcast Services, and will be responsible for assisting the broadcast department in all aspects of live production, coaches shows, and player features, while helping to effectively tell the story of Samford Athletics through digital media.
Samford Athletics produces over 100 live ESPN broadcasts each year, including every home game for women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, and softball, as well as other select campus events. The department also regularly produces in-studio shows featuring coaches, student-athletes, and staff.
In addition to broadcast responsibilities, the Broadcasting Graduate Assistant may be asked to assist with creative video, photography, and social media.
Requirements:
Experience in a fast-paced, live production atmosphere
High-level experience with camera operation
Knowledge and experience with all or most of the following production hardware: Ross Carbonite, Ross Xpression, Envivo Replay, Newtek Tricaster, Newtek 3Play, AJT Livebook, Telex comms systems
Strong familiarity with Adobe Premiere Pro and/or Final Cut Pro. Familiarity with other Adobe Creative Cloud software is also preferred.
Basic familiarity with broadcast engineering: SDI cable, XLR cable, audio mixers, fiber optic connections, audio and video routing, comms systems, troubleshooting, etc.
Ability to perform manual labor: Moving heavy equipment from venue to venue, long cable runs, etc.
Basic experience shooting and editing video, as well as photo, is encouraged
Knowledge and understanding of all current social media platforms and trends is strongly preferred
On-air and on-camera experience is helpful, but not required
Ability to think creatively and on-the-fly
Hardworking team player with a good attitude, good communication skills, and willingness to learn
Enrollment in one of Samford's Masters program is required
