The IT Coordinator is responsible for facilitating successful policy/procedure changes driven by compliance requirement or local need. The individual will implement Association IT initiatives and remain consistent with Extension Administration guidance surrounding Information Technology. This person works closely with the Leatherstocking IT Lead, Executive Director, and CCE Oneida management staff to establish robust networks of workstations, linked via both internet and intranet and provide remote maintenance, updates and support to those networks and components (both hardware and software). The IT Coordinator is responsible for performing in person maintenance of technology operations within CCE Oneida. The individual will exercise professional judgment, discretion, and confidentiality in leading the Association's IT operations in all tasks.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Information Technology or related filed. High school diploma/GED and 1 year transferrable experience may substitute.
- Experience relevant to the role of the position. Experience to include network interface and administration, operations and software training, security systems, hardware installation and upgrades, and teleconferencing.
- Knowledge of all current IT systems is required since Cornell applications support a variety of IT systems and IT hardware.
- Ability to interface with Extension IT personnel and local Association management personnel such that IT concepts and changes are interpreted for the non-IT personnel to understand and utilize.
- Strong communications skills and an attitude of being helpful at all levels.
- Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
- Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) system.
- Internal and external customer service experience.
Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Administrative Direction - 10%
- Assist with developing technology policies to ensure a secure, consistent computing environment is maintained and performed at the optimum level.
- Assist with planning for IT related expenses.
- Assist with planning for the Association's IT needs.
- Create a new staff computer orientation program to introduce new employees to the network environment as well as software used in the Association, especially Microsoft office including Outlook email and calendar, and other technology equipment such as printers, digital cameras, and scanners.
Administrative Management - 25%
- Use and broaden an understanding of one or more operating systems, network environment, hardware platforms and/or application areas in the overall infrastructure of a complex administrative organization.
- Identify and monitor requirements for network preventative maintenance; and recommending or analyzing performance.
- Analyze problems and system requirements and make recommendations on software options, user environments, and systems used to optimize productivity and minimize impact on other users or systems.
- Make hardware and software recommendations based upon compatibility with existing network environment, and program needs.
Administrative Coordination/Operation - 60%
- Serve as local IT support & back-up to Leatherstocking IT Lead.
- Provide training on audio/visual equipment.
- Provide support and training on conferencing systems.
- Train current staff as necessary and introduce new employees to the network environment as well as software used in the Associations, especially Microsoft Office including Outlook email and calendar, and other technology equipment such as printers, digital cameras, and scanners.
- Make hardware and software purchases based upon anticipated needs, discussions with management and taking into consideration the compatibility with existing network environment, and program needs.
- Recommend and configure audio/visual equipment as needed.
- Conduct maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and repair of the three (3) main components of the network environment: 1. Servers - including upgrading and updating (patching) all software versions running on the network operating system. 2. Network Backbone - including all cabling, hubs, switches, and Network interface cards installed in workstations. 3. Workstations and Peripherals - including all desktops, laptops, printers, print servers, monitors, modems, scanners, and other Information Technology.
- Perform diagnostic analysis to resolve complex trouble-shooting service; effecting repairs to the network or desktop systems infrastructure.
- Interact directly with CCE staff, programs and systems to ascertain technology related issues.
- Interact with CCE Administration IT Team for guidance on IT related systems and processes and to gather information regarding updates in IT systems that affect the Association.
- Maintain positive working relationship with Cornell Cooperative Extension Information Technology Group, and other necessary technology support contacts.
- Maintain and enhance usage of the current video teleconferencing systems. Assist with configuration and set up for any teleconferencing, and be available to configure and set up system and other audio/visual equipment for use by groups using the facilities.
- Coordinate purchases, set up, and distribute new equipment, and retire and appropriately dispose of outdated items as needed.
- Coordinate and conduct a new staff computer orientation program.
Professional Improvement & Other Duties as Assigned - 5%
- In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
- Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.

- Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.
- Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
