Germantown Friends School is seeking an Athletics Media Manager to coordinate the multimedia promotion of the Athletics Department. The role is responsible for coverage spanning both the Middle School and Upper School divisions, 21 varsity programs, and 65+ teams. We strive to cover equitably the broad-ranging aspects of athletics: teamwork, technical and tactical development, striving for excellence, perseverance, healthy competition, and good sportsmanship. The coverage is intended to reinforce the successes of the program and to build upon our positive reputation in the Philadelphia region and beyond.
Coordinates multimedia promotion of Athletic Department.
Social media and athletic website management.
Live-streaming and video production.
Create, research, write, and produce feature articles, press releases, game notes, and programs for local, regional, national, and sports-specific media outlets.
Develop digital graphics content.
Capture, edit, share, archive images (memes, GIFs, short videos), statistics, and information.
Take, harvest, edit, and archive high-quality photos and videos and work with other photographers and videographers.
Cultivate strategies to utilize content.
Communicate effectively with wider community.
Provide technical support for coaches and advise student AV Club.
Maintain main athletics social media handles (GFS Tigers Instagram and Twitter) in alignment with the strategic communications goals of the school, the Athletic Department, and the Athletic Director.
Monitor content and maintain accurate game information, league news, student profiles, alumni notes, health and wellness, game videos, links to articles.
Facilitate and support individual sport Instagram and Twitter handles with head or assistant coach.
Ensure team accounts are being used properly and guidelines are followed.
Engage with and increase followers, retweet appropriate material, and push information to the Friends Schools League handle.
Attend and cover competitions with equity and regularity.
Coordinate with Athletics & Advancement Offices on spirit blasts for significant competitions, senior days, college signings, rivalry days, and milestones (ex. 1000 points, All-League, All-State, etc.).
Coordinate media press releases and daily score reporting.
Aid in promotion of summer sports camps via athletics social media accounts.
Athletic Website Management
Support rostering for teams in database.
Transfer competition schedule across platforms (from database to website).
Support coaches in write-ups via post-competition follow-up.
Write summaries and post to website under “Athletic News.”
Maintain “Alumni Athletes in the News” on website though research and interaction with alumni community and Director of Alumni Relations.
Manage web page design.
Review and edit website accuracy, design philosophy and program pages.
Keep team pages, photos and video galleries, rosters, coaches’ bios, and contacts updated seasonally.
Perform regular search engine optimization to maximize visibility of our site.
Strategically schedule live-stream coverage.
Balance coverage evenly among varsity teams.
Communicate live-stream schedule to community.
Perform on-site live-streaming including tech setup and breakdown.
Utilize captured footage to produce segments for subsequent promotion and/or collegiate recruiting process.
Maintain a cumulative archive of footage so that it can be located and resourced in future years.
Engage with coaches, students, and parents who request footage.
Content Production and Dissemination
Write, research, compile, and edit various written materials including press releases, feature articles, game notes, and game programs.
Support story and score reporting to Philadelphia Inquirer, Chestnut Hill Local, PA Prep Live, Roxborough Review and other local, regional, and potentially national media and sports-specific outlets.
Follow-up with coaches to ascertain scores, help to capture, catalog, and archive this information for future use.
Produce short video clips that promote the athletic program.
Foci could include rivalry wins, championship news, athlete profiles, coach bios, trips, health and wellness, milestones, a special team story, alumni connections, national competitions.
Capture, edit, share, and archive images.
Coordinate photographers for athletic events if needed.
Gather and/or take Team Pictures of all teams.
Gather and/or take Senior Pictures throughout the year.
Liaison to media outlets for athletic videos and pictures.
Manage athletics photography assets on Google Drive.
Prepare support materials for athletic events, including assemblies, open houses and Stokes Senior Athletic Dinner (slide shows, videos, posters, headshots, stats).
Plan and implement methods to build school spirit and support for major. competitions/matches/games-emails to faculty/staff news and student news, where appropriate.
Technical Support for Coaches
Assist coaches with video technology for practice, game or recruiting needs.
Lead coaching staff in creating season outlook and/or highlight videos for each varsity team and for middle school athletics.
Serve as a media relations expert for teams and coaches to maximize positive exposure opportunities.
Student AV Club Advisor
Advise team managers on audiovisual equipment and usage.
Advise a newly-formed sports production club for live competition coverage (radio and television).
Teach students how to utilize, properly care for, and store the resources efficiently and effectively.
Meet regularly with Director of Communications & Marketing and Director of Athletics to connect about philosophy, strategy, and coverage.
Maintain and track all cameras, tablets, computers, cables, tripods, microphones, and sound systems for events and student production and secure storage.
Assist on-site with department events (assemblies, tournaments, meetings).
Other duties as specified by the Director of Communications and Marketing & Director of Athletics.
Bachelor's degree required, preferable concentration in media arts, graphic design, or an athletic communication field. Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite and a familiarity with the Google Platform within an education setting is preferable.

Skills necessary for the position
Expertise in social media strategies, photography and videography.
Working knowledge of website management, multimedia, and new media technologies.
Excellent written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Ability to develop and maintain relationships with members of the media, coaches, student-athletes, athletics staff, parents, fans, and alumni.
Must be willing to travel to local and sometimes regional competitions.
Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holiday breaks.
Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, in various weather conditions.
Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials weighing 20 to 50 pounds.
