Dept Marketing Statement The University of California Observatories (UCO) is a Multi-Campus Research Unit of the University of California, with headquarters at the UC Santa Cruz campus. UCO operates on behalf of astronomers on eight UC campuses and two national laboratories and is comprised of extensive technical facilities, a business office, telescopes and support facilities at the Lick Observatory on Mt. Hamilton. UCO provides UC's scientific and administrative interface to the Keck Observatory on Mauna Kea, Hawaii, and the Thirty-Meter Telescope international project, and supports the training of astronomy Ph.D.s throughout the UC system.
Involves professional engineering and engineering technician support as part of academic instructional lab and / or research projects and programs. Engineering activities include the design, construction, testing of experimental systems, operation of analytical systems, establishment of performance specifications, and documentation. Engineering Technicians may be assigned duties within a single discipline (e.g., electrical) or span a range of disciplines.
Uses professional electronics engineering concepts to perform moderately complex engineering assignments including design of circuit boards, interface hardware, and cable harness design. Works to support testing of both subsystem level and integration level hardware during prototyping, and final verification steps. Works in a specialized engineering field on a major training and / or research effort. Works on assignments of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule Salary Information: $51,100 - $89,200 / Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

Job Duties 40%
Under general supervision, designs and prepares electronics engineering design documents to support instrument design and development including hardware for procurements and vendor fabrication.
Under general supervision, participates in the design, procurement, acceptance testing and final integration of electronics hardware for astronomical projects.
Gathers and analyzes data; prepares formal engineering reports, drawings and status reports.
Support design and construction of cables and cable harnesses including design drawings and procurements of cables.
Assists with implementation of business processes, supporting CruzBuy orders and managing deliveries and acceptance.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Working knowledge of engineering principles and methods in order to independently perform professional engineering design work of limited scope and complexity.
Working knowledge necessary to begin independent application of principles, practices and procedures in the completion of assignments.
Organizational abilities and decision-making to prioritize work assignments.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work in a collaborative manner, to assist in identifying any challenges or barriers.
Special Conditions Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
