Department: IET COMMUNICATIONS RESOURCES - 061420 Department Description: The mission of Information and Educational Technology (IET) is to create and support an information technology environment that enhances the ability of the UC Davis community to teach, do research and provide public service. Job Summary: Network Services and Engineering (NSE) is the primary campus contact for all telecommunications and network service requests and installation. Under the direction of Communication Resources (CR) Installations Services Supervisor, serve as technical consultant analyst for telecommunications technology services for UC Davis campus. Serve as technology leader for the NSE when Customer Service Representatives are confronted with service requests that aren't within the current service/rate structure.. Work with the Installation Services Supervisor handling both network and AV services.
Perform building safety inspections, collect material samples for safety hazard analysis and testing. Serves as an advanced journey level resource in a relevant professional discipline; works independently on projects of moderate complexity. Exercise independent judgment and discretion; assist in planning, coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring, and evaluating the work results in assigned area and in training and developing lower-level personnel. Lead installation teams on projects and/or large renovations. Serve as the back up to the supervisor during occasional vacations or extended absences.
Physical Demands: Lift 25 lbs.
Operate in elevated or confined areas: roof tops, attics, basements, HVAC spaces, laboratories, controlled spaces. Climb ladders.
Work Environment: Valid Driver's License required to operate a University vehicle.
Participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System
Work occasional weekends and holidays.
Vacation restricted during peak business periods.
Required to maintain certification in the AHERA Asbestos Abatement Program. Required to attain Asbestos Competent Person (Inspector) and Asbestos Building Inspector certification within six months of employment.
May at times, require employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present.
This position is subject to Medical Surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy.
May work in noisy environments generated from computer equipment, telephone conversations and nearby construction areas.

Minimum Qualifications: Technical experience in telecommunications, networking, and communications infrastructure design.
Experience performing technical cost/benefit analyses and to make appropriate recommendations to technical management and clients regarding service.
Skills to understand and interpret projects and design plans.
Experience with inside cable engineering techniques, cable types, material, and hardware.
Experience with transmission methods and engineering design for transport equipment using fiber, circuit, voice, wireless and carrier services.
Ability to draft and understand service level agreements and memorandums of understanding between organizations.
Ability to read, understand lease agreements and project documents.
Proficiency in Office 365 Applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, Visio), AutoCAD, telemanagement software, and Service Now.
Preferred Qualifications: Working knowledge of optical, local area, wide area and multimedia systems.
Understand and interface public carrier technology and delivery methods to University infrastructure and process.
Experience working with building codes, standard skills and procedures of construction trades.
