East Carolina University is recruiting for a Network Technician Journey to provide technical assistance in network system planning, configuration, deployment, maintenance, trouble-shooting and security of university network services. These services require a high level of availability and system security as they are critical to the functions of the university.
Responsibilities for this position encompass assisting with the daily support, management, deployment, maintenance, automation, disaster recovery and troubleshooting of various enterprise-level network services for both Main campus and the Health Sciences campus. Work may also involve the installation, troubleshooting and repair of data circuits, Ethernet cabling and fiber optics. Technicians resolve daily network-related work requests which include support for enterprise wireless, data, VoIP, datacenter servers, access control systems, software and infrastructure related problems with switches, wireless technologies and power conditioning devices. Complex network issues are escalated to higher level networking analysts, specialists or vendors for resolution. This position manages projects that have a low impact and tasks related to implementation of critical network infrastructure, new construction, and building renovations.
The employee in this position is responsible for forming and maintaining strategic technology contacts and partnerships with university departments, key technology suppliers, vendors and contractors. This position is responsible for the planning, cost containment, configuration, optimization, maintenance, security and scalable implementation of current and emerging technologies. This individual is also responsible for procuring and maintaining various support agreements and contracts as well as verifying data, report writing, summarizing and reconciling information or financial data, data collection and analysis, research and inventory. Employee maintains current knowledge of software or hardware changes and plans changes appropriately in response to business needs. This is a mission critical position that directly affects nearly all university staff, faculty and students.

Associates Degree in Electronics, Networking Technology or a closely related degree; Graduation from high school and two years of networking related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Journey level requires an additional six months experience.
